Organizational matters
All participants must fill out the Registration Form, which includes a 1-page CV and a Motivation Letter (in a single file), as described at https://cost-cosy.eu/steps-to-apply-for-a-ts/
Deadline for registration: 15th of December, 2025.
Decision on selected participants: 19th of December, 2025.
There is no registration fee for this Training School.
Attendance is limited to 20 trainees in total, of whom 16 will be reimbursed by COSY according to the reimbursement rules described below. The Organizing Team will select participants following COST rules, ensuring a balance of career stage, gender, and country of work.
In line with the general rules of the COSY COST Action order to participate at the Training School, it is necessary to:
Have an e-COST profile at https://e-services.cost.eu/
Have received an e-COST invitation to the meeting and have accepted it within 2 weeks from receiving it.
Sign the attendance list on each day of the attendance at the TS.
Participants from abroad are expected to arrive in Coimbra on the 21st of January in the afternoon and depart on the 24th of January in the morning.
Although some desktop PCs are available for hands-on sessions, participants are recommended to bring their own laptops with linux and a fortran compiler.
Reimbursement
Participants have to sign their attendance each day of the training school, according to the COST regulations.
For up to 16 non-local participants of this training school, COSY will reimburse the basic costs by paying up to 3 Daily Allowances of 100€ and long-distance travel costs up to 400€. Participants coming from a city closer than 101 km from Coimbra are not eligible for travel cost reimbursement, but might apply for daily allowance.
Participants will be reimbursed individually by applying through the e-COST online system after the training school. Therefore, participants will have to pay themselves for accommodation and food In advance.
To be reimbursed, participants should submit their ticket receipts with the reimbursement claim and carry out their obligations which will be specified by the COST rules. About 1-2 months after applying for reimbursement through the COST online system, participants will be reimbursed. According to the rules of COST, the reimbursement cannot be sent to an individual, only to an institution.
Self-financing
The training school accepts applications from candidates that have their own source of funding in case they are not eligible for support by the COST Action. In the application form, please indicate that you do not wish to apply for COST reimbursement.
COST Schools & eligibility
COST training schools are open to researchers (MSc, PhD students, and postdocs/researchers) from any nationality or country. However, due to space and funds limitations, following the COST association rules, the preference will be given to students working in laboratories from countries participating to the CA21101 action.
Accomodation
The participants need to manage their own accommodation, which might be reimbursed within the Daily Allowance, if eligible. We strongly recommend that you make your reservation as soon as possible.

How to reach from the airport
- Arriving by plane
The training school venue is located at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Coimbra (https://www.uc.pt/fctuc/dquimica), in Coimbra, in the central region of Portugal. Coimbra is easily accessible by train and bus from major Portuguese cities. The closest airports are in Porto (≈140 km https://www.aeroportoporto.pt/en/opo/home) and Lisbon (≈200 km https://www.aeroportolisboa.pt/en/lis/home).
- From Lisbon/Porto to Coimbra
Regular trains and buses connect Lisbon and Porto directly to Coimbra. Trains and buses depart from Lisboa-Oriente (Lisbon) and Porto-Campanhã (Porto) stations. The metro offers easy access from the airports – red line (3 stops) to Lisboa-Oriente and purple line (19 stops) to Porto-Campanhã. Uber and taxis are also available. Lisboa-Sete-Rios station offers additional bus services to Coimbra, although it is farther from the airport. Some buses depart directly from the airports to Coimbra (skip the metro if that is the case). - To Chemistry Department
The main train station in Coimbra is Coimbra-B, from which Uber, Bolt, taxis, and local buses provide easy access to the city centre and the University area. Public transport in Coimbra is operated by SMTUC (https://www.smtuc.pt/en/).
Tickets can be purchased on board for €2 per trip, or with a pre-paid card (costing €0.50) that can be loaded for multiple journeys at a reduced fare – less than €1 per trip, depending on the number of trips purchased. Alternatively, 1-day (€4) and 3-day (€9) passes are also available. The pre-paid card must be validated on board and can be purchased at several official sales points across the city – see https://www.smtuc.pt/en/locais-de-venda/ for locations near the train or bus stations.
The nearest bus stop to the Department of Chemistry is “Universidade”, served by bus 28 from both Coimbra-B train station and the RedeExpressos/FlixBus terminals. The Department of Chemistry is also about a 5-minute walk from the “Arcos do Jardim” stop, served by bus 5 from the same stations. During the Training School, most locations in Coimbra are within walking distance.
